Cork County Council Library & Arts Service is delighted to be bringing our Summer Arts programme straight to you this year!

From the comfort of the couch, you can enjoy drumming, stories, art, adventures, film-making and so much more... It’s all here, and it’s all the activities you could dream of this summer!

Summer Arts programme will be running weekly competitions throughout the summer holidays that will challenge you and put to test everything you have learned in our awesome videos. With our libraries re-opening, you can also use them to help you find out even more about den-building, animation, percussion and loads more skills!

Each week, there will be a new competition based on one of the Summer Arts videos, and each week you can be in with a chance of winning vouchers for Cork Arts Supplies and to have your work included in our end-of-summer exhibition extravaganza!

This weeks challenge is.... Build your own Den!!

As part of our Summer Arts Programme, Julie O’Hea has been showing us how to make awesome dens and how to decorate them to make them stand out! Check out Julie’s fantastic videos here and here and then why not have a go at making your own designer den?

Send us your pictures of your dens and you can be in with a chance of winning a voucher for Cork Arts Supplies worth €50.

This week we focus on Rusheen N.S who were Gold Medal Winners.  The judges were very impressed   that the  garden is of a consistently high standard. The garden is maturing nicely. There is a good emphasis on food production and biodiversity. The garden is well planned and cared for. Labeling and use of Irish was excellent. Very good use of upcycling colour and art and we loved the links with local history/heritage, the outdoor classroom and the Glasshouse which is a great asset.   Cork School Garden 2023 focus on Castlelyons N.S This week we focus on Castlelyons N.S who were Best in Category Winners.  The judges were very impressed that  t he garden is developing and maturing nicely." The enthusiasm and knowledge of the children was amazing. Labeling and use of Irish was excellent. Very good use of upcycling colour and art and we loved the wildflower area and the wildflower meadow.   Great overall Garden.  The soil could benefit from some conditioning mulching and maturing in some places and we look forward to seeing your plans for a nature trail come to fruition. Also consider more water harvesting near your beds.
