Made for Shade

When Shade Gardens are Beautiful
The biggest question I get asked at Griffins Garden Centre is “What can I grow in a shaded corner”
I love planting shade loving beds. It is where I can plant some different plants and still have so much interest and colour.  A cottage garden in shade can be bursting with colour if you select the right Plants
Perennial flowers that add colour:

The bleeding heart is an apt one for Easter.
Old Fashioned Pink Bleeding Heart is a popular shade perennial with arching stems of lovely, heart-shaped flowers. A timeless classic, this plant inspires nostalgia whenever it's noticed! (Dicentra spectabilis)

Astible
Astilbe are rugged, beautiful shade lovers that throw long and colorful spikes above divided foilage in summer, a time when color in the shade garden is hard to come by. Use Astilbe plants in groups in the woodland border, or mass them to create a ground cover. In evenly moist or wet soil, Astilbes are tough, pest-free, and handsome.

Astible Burgundy Red has unusual deep burgundy red flowers, thick reddish stems and deep red buds give this astilbe long lasting color, flowers are slightly fragrant and form triangular-shaped plumes, attractive glossy deep green foliage.

Astilbe Brautschleier also known as bridal veil is the classic white astilbe with large drooping, lacy panicles from early summer.  Just plant the Astible white with hosta patriot , white diascia and white hydrangeas. That dark shaded area of your corner will be so bright.

Phlox
Gardeners have always enjoyed border phlox. The colours are wonderful, the evening scent is captivating, they are easy to grow. And the bees
love these plants too.

It is also scented, and a useful cut flower. Where? A great choice for the front of a bed or border.  How? Happy in any fertile, well drained soil.Phlox hate to dry out so happiest on moist soil.  . Geranium 'Rozanne'

Geranium 'Rozanne' has been voted one of the top 10 plants of the century and it's grown locally, which is an added bonus. Geraniums are versatile perennials that flower for several months through early summer and are at their best in July. One outstanding cultivar is Geranium 'Rozanne', easy to grow with gives masses of mauve flowers which emerge through the vigorous and lush foliage.
It looks at its best grown among shrubs and taller perennials where its lax habit can be used to full advantage. Best planted in groups of 3, 5, 7 or more. Not much interferes with this Geranium, so it is generally trouble free as regards pests and disease!
