  Cork School Garden 2023 focus on School of the Divine Child This week we focus on School of the Divine Child who were Highly Recommended for their school garden.  The judges were very  impressed    by all the different sections of the garden and the way they are used. The quality in the vegetable garden raised beds was excellent the knowledge of the chiildren about biodiversity, labelling   and food production was very impressive. "We were also delighted with the knowledge of the children. The upcycling and bee friendly measures are very impressive. It is great that you have forged links with the communithy garden and use it for some classes.     Consider water harvesting from the roof and improve weeding of beds.    Cork School Garden 2023 focus on Sonas Special Primary School   This week we focus on Sonas Special Primary School  who were Commended for their school garden.  The judges were very  impressed .  " This was a terrific first time entry. We enjoyed the sensory garden and the colour and art   in the garden.   Consider installing a water butt and grow some fruit trees in large recycled containers from cuttings. Label the plants to help children identify them".  Focus on Canovee N.S   This week we focus on Canovee N.S  who were Commended for their school garden.  The judges were very  impressed    by     the  colorful garden and the great use of every space. "We were impressed by use of tubs and containers, wall mural and the Bug/bee hotel  .    The garden has huge potential and would benefit from some raised beds for each class. Maybe talk to Tidy Towns about this. Try and grow seasonal vegetables which could be harvested before the school goes on summer holidays. A water butt harvesting water from the roof would be a great asset. You could use the covered area to star plants off early and consider planting fruit trees and bushes". "We were impressed by the wildflower meadow, the use of the glasshouse and the great food production. The planting and labelling was excellent   and the garden is a fun place for all.     Consider a nature project to identify and label the trees, Maybe consider an extra water butt and more fruit bushes". "The garden is maturing nicely. There is a good emphasis on food production and biodiversity. The garden is well planned and cared for. Labeling and use of Irish was excellent. Very good use of upcycling colour and art and we loved the links with local history/heritage. The Glasshouse is a great asset and the addition of the pond was a great idea idea. Shamrock for St Patricks Day

Happy St Patricks Day The Shamrock     The shamrock is closely associated with Saint Patrick,. Shamrock itself is a young clover, and the name is an anglicisation of seamair óg or "young clover".  Famous stories tell of how St. Patrick used the shamrock in his teachings. Preaching in the open air about God and the Trinity, he illustrated the meaning of the Three in One by plucking a shamrock from the grass growing at his feet and showing it to his congregation. The legend of the shamrock is also associated with the banishment of the serpents from Ireland by a tradition that snakes are never seen on shamrock and that it is a remedy against the bites of snakes and scorpions.  Many myths abound about Shamrock . One common one is that Shamrock is a plant that never flowers. Another is that Shamrock does not grow outside Ireland and that if you try and plant it on foreign soil, it will wither and die.
