Cork School Gardens Competition Promotional Video

  The Cork School Gardens Competition is an initiative of the Cork Federation of Muintir na Tire & supported by Cork County Council, Cork City Council & Griffins Garden Centre Dripsey. While the competition did not take place this year due to Covid19 here is a promotional video we did supported by Creative Ireland Programme to highlight the competition & encourage schools to get involved in 2021.

Cork County’s Colourful Heritage Book Returns

  Body Following the success of Cork County Council’s original ‘The Colourful Heritage of County Cork’ bilingual colouring book, a second volume has now been launched as part of the Council’s ‘Keep Well’ wellbeing campaign. Volume Two of the popular series features 30 brand new sites from across the county, from Bandon and Buttevant to Kanturk and Youghal. Supported by The Heritage Council and the Creative Ireland Programme, the publication is bilingual in both Irish and English and covers a wide range of culture and heritage, from craft and archaeology to biodiversity and maritime heritage. Members of the public were invited to contribute drawings of heritage and cultural sites, while the Council also worked with illustrators to complete the latest addition to ‘The Heritage of County Cork’ series, combining culture and heritage with colour and creativity. 18 Cork County Schools added to Creative Schools Programme

  Cork County Council welcomes news that 18 primary and secondary schools in Cork County have been added to the national Creative Schools Programme. This flagship initiative of the Creative Ireland Programme is led by the Arts Council in partnership with the Department of Education and Skills and the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and aims to enable the creative potential of children in Ireland by understanding, developing and celebrating the arts and creativity in schools. A new Primary Schools Creative Cluster for West Cork has also been announced. This Creative Cluster will be managed by the West Cork Education Centre and will include Multose National School, Ballymoney National School and Kilgarriffe NS Clonakilty. Each school participating in the Creative Schools scheme will receive €3,100 and those participating in the creative cluster will benefit from an additional €1,000 per school for 2020.  This announcement means an additional €60,000 of investme...

National Fire Safety Week Competition for Primary Schools

  Every year Cork County Council’s Fire Service runs a Primary Schools Fire Safety Programme. Due to current restrictions it has not been possible to visit schools to deliver this programme in the usual way. Instead, the Fire Service in conjunction with National Fire Safety Week 2020 from the 5 th   to 11 th   October, is running a competition for primary school children in County Cork. This year the theme for Fire Safety Week is “Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives”. The competition runs from Monday 7 th  September to Monday 5 th  October with winners to be announced during National Fire Safety Week.  Each week a selection of submitted art work will be featured on the  Cork County Fire Service Facebook page . Use Your Lego to Showcase Local Heritage

The Heritage Council is calling on children, aged 4 to 12 years of age, across the country to put their imagination to good use this summer by using their Lego bricks to recreate their favourite example of Irish built, natural or cultural heritage. You must choose your category, build a model, write a short description of what your model represents and why it’s important to you.   Closing date: Sunday 30 th  August.  Lego books and kits will be provided for the winners. ECO – WARRIORS SUMMER CAMPS 2020    A week of exploring our environment through play and learning new skills. A safe space for children aged 6 to 8 years and 9 to 12years to take age appropriate risks to enhance their self-confidence and esteem under supervision. The camp will be held in Le Cheile Family Resource Centre Community Garden. Children are to bring their own lunch daily.
